About Cheryl

During my teen years, I often cranked up my phonograph player with Moonlight Sonata or The Beatles and wrote poetry. None of it is worth a mention now but the desire to write was there. I dreamed of one day holding a book I had written in my hands.

Many years later, the dream came true. In between, lots of life happened. I met my husband Stan in college and we embarked on an adventure of managing careers, raising a family, and devoting time to ministry in our local church. And now, we find ourselves writing books together.

I had the privilege of being Mom to the four most amazing men in the world. They gifted me with four lovely daughters-in-love and thirteen young humans who call me Grammy.

In 2016, we began construction on a farmhouse retreat with a goal of creating a look and feel of our grandparents’ era. Even more than this, we sought to create a place of rest, comfort, and where stories are discovered. Everything about the land inspires me and has transformed me into a country girl at heart–and a better writer.

Now retired from the traveling literacy consultant life, I relish the time to write. I love God’s truth, being with my people, rocking on the farmhouse porch, and watching sunsets over the pond.

We might just find the ordinary is extraordinary, after all.

Cheryl Schuermann attended Oklahoma State University where she received a B.S. in Curriculum and Instruction and a master’s degree in Education with emphasis in Literacy. She devoted her professional career to literacy education and working with at-risk students. After many years in the classroom, Cheryl contracted as a literacy consultant and curriculum trainer in schools across the United States. She wrote and conducted dozens of workshops and presented at numerous literacy conferences.

In addition to writing, Cheryl facilitates a caregiver support group for her community. With a passion for children and families, she and her husband Stan have mentored and taught parents in their local church for over twenty-five years. Cheryl spends as much time as possible with her family: Stan (married 52 years), four sons, four daughters-in-law, and thirteen grandchildren. They are her inspiration and source of her many stories. The Farm is her favorite place to write, be with family, and host ministry groups.

Cheryl is the author of several published books, several articles, and is an anthology contributor. Her first devotional book, Farmhouse Devotions: God’s Glory in the Ordinary, released in May 2024 from Bold Vision Books.  Others include Raising Kids for Tomorrow’s World: 12 Keys to Preserving the Faith (Pen It Publications 2022), co-authored with Stan Schuermann.

Cheryl is a Word Weavers International president, and a member of Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) and Christian Authors Network/CIPA
